With the stone chips, surely it's not really any more exposed than the rad? I know it's a tad lower though. As gti_copey mentioned, I've seen it to the left of the grille too but I have some plastic cowling I'm reluctant to move, not sure how critical it is even though it's just for airflow.

Horney - do you run your car without the spotlight in all of the time? Seems a really good place to put it as there is plenty of space, however as I have a 4 lamp grille it might restrict the flow too much. Has it lowered your temps a nice amount?

Its a track car and looking at his other pics i assume so..

Yeah I run it like that all time. Mines the same as Sound's as it's from a MKI so the thermostat kicks in at 110 Deg C. Therefore it only ever opens on warm trackdays after 10+ mins of really hammering it. I used to see temps on track of 120-125 but now it doesn't go over 114 so yeah, it's great.

Edit: On road it never gets hot enough to open as the car runs at 90-94 on the road no matter how much beans you give it. Just shows how much harder you can push them on track.

Lovely. 90 is where I want mine to sit. I have the themostatic plate but I think it opens at 80 degress which is a fair bit sooner than your mk1 one. If it does overcool I'll just have to cover it up slightly 

Dunce question this but do you just have to top your oil level up by the amount that the new oil pipes/cooler hold? i.e run the engine to pump the oil into the cooler then just top up as required?

if you know the capacity of the cooler, put the factory amount of oil in the engine (plus oil filter) plus the capacity of the cooler.  Or put the factory amount in, let it run for a few minutes, let it cool down and settle and do what you said, check the level and top it up..

Just read through the whole thread and i have to say that i love what you have done with this car!

looks great and im glad that you have got the best products on your limited budget.

Cant wait for more updates on this as i am really thinking about getting a Mk2 as a weekend toy!

Summer work/overdraft/cutting down on going out  I've been working solidly to pay off my debts for the past few months.

Ok so hopefully this afternoon was the last time I'll have to mock this thing up - could strip the front down with my eyes closed, I've done it so many times 

I've decided to mount it vertically in the end as everywhere else seemed to cause problems - bumper recess the pipework was too short my about 10cm (pain in the arse).

I think there should be enough air flow around the spotlamp now the trim around the rad has been removed. However, I've noticed the cooler does touch the back of the lamp i.e the bulb cover. Is this going to be a problem? I don't want it to melt 

 So, this is how it's looking now:









Will be held in with 2 bolts in the slam panel and two in the front cross member. Pics are a rough mock up. If you have any advice or can spot any probs please shout
