I'm swaying towards a sunroof for my spec. Will give it a couple more weeks to think over though.

For me, the pros of a sunroof....

- Extra light
- Cooling
- Looks sportier on a car when its raised slightly

Cons...

- Most sunroofs I know always seems to delevop some sort of rattle
- I think they are expensive

don't forget that a sunroof will reduce the headroom - an issue if guess if you're tall

It will ?

it usually does.  think about the electrics that need to be incorporated into the headlining - therefore will reduce headroom.

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

Hmm, didn't think about that. Will have to take that into consideration then. Infact, its kinda put me off.

I've got rattles on the Peugeot, but none of them is anything to do with the sunroof.

There is water coming into the car from that area which I think is down to the sunroof, but it isn't actually bad enough for me to have asked anyone to look at it, and the car isn't exactly a spring chicken.

I think it's a lot better value for money than some of the stuff you're shelling out for, sweetheart!

Rolfe.

Off topic and completely irrelevant since you are crushing it but do you have the aerial just in front of the sunroof?  Is the water coming in via the courtesy light?  If so you need to tighten up the bolt holding the aerial in place.  Common pug problem.

I daresay you don't care anymore though

Right on both counts!  I was just guessing about it being the sunroof.  The main area of water ingress is indeed the courtesy light - although it does come in a couple of other places as well.  It's only a few drops when I first drive off after it's been standing in the rain.  It could well be the aerial bolt, I've had trouble with that in the past.

Not really bothered now though.  (Cue moan about what a shame it is to scrap that car, but it's time for a new one and it's now way worth what the scrappage is giving me for it.   )  I'll get over it....

By the way, Kev, everyone gave me that stuff about headroom when I got the Peugeot.  That's a particularly low-roofed car, too.  It's never bothered me at all, and I'm 5' 7".  The Golf is higher to start with, so you've got more to play with.

Rolfe.  Getting the sunroof, dammit!

No sorry can`t help with that one,i was just reading about the pro`s and cons of a sunroof in this topic and noticed someone mentioned head height, well i`m 6ft 2 and i must have at least a foot of headroom above me.Personally i would have liked a sunroof but decided i spent enough already
As far as the blind goes i doubt you will need one,the glass is normally quite well smoked in sunroofs

My 07 Mk5 Gti hasa sunroof, and I can confirm it does have sliding cover, always keep cover open to be honest. I would never have considered sunroof as an option, just so happened that his car was available with it specced. Would not consider ordering a new one without, great in summer, blows cobwebs out in winter and no creaks or rattles in two years. Incidentally, i am 6'4'' and headroom not an issue although you do lose a couple of inches against standard cars.
Hope this helps.  Dave
