I used to have a cool plate with plenty of history, I had BMX 1T (BMX IT). I used to race BMX bikes when I was younger and was quite good, I bought it off a guy called Craig Schofield who was World Champion in 1985, his dad bought him the plate for winning that race. I bought it off him around 1995 and sold it back to him a couple of years ago.

I was sitting at traffic lights at Battersea one day and little mark from Take That pulled up next to me, wound his window down and said nice plate mate! Takes all sorts I suppose!

I used to race BMX bikes too, but I was sh!te. Nearly all the tracks were a million miles away from me and I didn't like falling off.
I remember Craig Schofield, Tim March and quite a few others who's names escape me now. I saved all my BMX Action Bike mags for years and years until one day my boiler leaked all over the boxes and ruined the lot.

Ha, Tim is a mate of mine, he was in my shop this week wanting me to fix his bike (again)! There was a pretty cool track in Exeter BITD, there was a national there.  What bike did you have Exo?  I've still got all my mags too!

If the question is 'where is the best place to buy a private plate' and you're looking for something like GIL 28 (or similar), then the best place to buy is probably the DVLA auctions.  Everyone else selling that style of plate will be putting a large mark-up on what you could have paid yourself!

Go onto the DVLA site and download the catalogue.  The next auction is the end of Jan.
http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/Auction/next

Register, and bid if theres anything you like!
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Gossa, I'll take this to PM (but the answer is my last one was a Raleigh Aero Pro way back in 1984, slightly modified of course)

And for Kev, I think that anwer was DVLA!  Although I know nowt about poofter plates (and apologies to anyone offended by that terminology, it was done in jest), I'd perhaps get a cool one if I won the lotto.
I'll keep my 09 plate until then though as they're uber rare thanks to VWs nice waiting lists.......

I've just bought a plate for my misses as part of her xmas. It said it was unavailable on every site I checked apart from newreg. I have purchased it and went through all the checks, I got the conformation email but right at the end it says they will send me the v750 then it says.. "N.B. In the event that ** *** is no longer available, we will contact you"

Does that mean that maybe they dont actually have this plate even though they are selling, or will it still go through ok ?

Kev, I bought my daughter a private reg about a month ago for passing her test and also for a Christmas present direct from DVLA.
I've just went on to newreg and searched for it and it is has told me the number is still available from them, which it clearly isn't as I have all the paperwork. So to answer your question, I'd be really surprised if newreg had your number when everywhere else didn't unless it was actually theirs to sell.

Especially if it is in the form of A1 XYZ or AB59 XYZ.  As most (if not all) of the registration companies just link up to the DVLA database and then charge you a premium for it.  Always go to DVLA first if it is in the form that I just quoted.
