Also, just remembered, I get "IN 02" everytime I turn the ignition on.

Flashes 4 times, then goes, any info on this? Nothing in search.

Service due

No idea how long that's been there then. Assumabley can be cleared through OBD?

As it was recently serviced, plus I will be doing it again before selling (always do).

If you check the handbook you can clear it I think by holding the mfa button down.

looks a nice car. You may be reading too much into the steering issue depending how heavey it is, just check the usual places for wear, check liquid level etc. You wouldnt really be able to diagnose it without driving it.

I'm thinking about getting it taken to a relatives place with about a mile of straight tarmac to test this on and just to have a play, but when you say reading to much into it, could you expand on this a little? Would be appreciated  as I dont see what else it could be minus the pump, rack, belt or oil. Oil is fine, belt is fine other 2 can't be checked really.

Regarding the alloys,im sure you could get a set of standard mk3 gti alloys on ebay for next to nothing, then sell the ones on the car to cover the cost and probably make abit of profit even,mk3s are horrible to drive on wheels that big.

Right, next few issues (now it's night time and I had to shift it to let my Dad's car out) ...

With the lights on, upon pushing the shifter down and left into reverse, it cuts the dash lights off ... all of em. However the headlights, all rear lights, internal lights, like the top centre light and the glove box light continue to work, it's literally just the dash (speedo etc) lights go off, they wont come back on untill you turn the light's nob (which also goes out) a notch whether that be off (from sidelights) or to sidelights (from main beam) then work fine, untill you plonk into reverse again ... I assume I have a short somewhere, but could any one help pinpoint this a bit closer?

Next are the dash lights, the speedo etc, they lights up yes, but very dim, perhaps this is how they are but they are very dull to me and the screen readout cannot be read? Any way to brighten these up?

Also found the thing on the right hand lever which gives you all the readouts which is cool for that age of car indeed, temp, temp outside, mileage, MPG etc ...

Also manage a go with steering. It's heavy very heavy but with turn with some effort. It's also turnable at a standstill on loose gravel/soil/tarmac but again heavy and tbh, both hands have to be used, is this sounding more like a rack or pump issue?

Thanks.

Regarding the dim dash lights,if you look to the right of the steering wheel on the dash pretty much next to the lights switch there is a little roller,if you roll it the dash lights will dim and get brighter, this feature is on most golfs!

have you got power steering at all?! if its as heavy as you describe you might not be getting any power, so could be the pump
