Ha, Russ you're a funny guy! Totally my thinking, most of my driving I've got my mates with me and too right I like to hear the sound all around me anyway! In my lounge I've got about £500 worth of Amp and floorstanders just for my Ipod, don't get me wrong sounds sh!t hot but I do prefer the full surround sound I get out of my cinema setup in my room (don't worry I'm not some rich snooty bast@ard with 8 butlers, spend all my money on tech) Hence why I want the best out of my car.

If my car sounds sh!t hot and drives then I'm happy but I'm all about music! Plus the incentive for me to have rear components is so my mates get decent sound as well! I'm nice like that ya see...

So brands for Components?! Alpine seem pretty decent, wouldn't mind matching my HU either!? Or was thinking of the new Kappas : KAPPA60.9CS?

yeah, you need sound from the rear to get fuller sound. i threw a stealth shelf in and a set of 6x9s, but thats just for consideration of the rear passangers. i will often have people in the back and cant hear anything unless there is speakers. although if i cba at some point i will throw some comps in the rear doors as i dont like 6x9s.

ohh and if you dont want the rear speakers on then fade in all the way to the front. got people in the back, then fade in back a bit :)

6x9s with subs dont work too bad, but its not a setup i'd recommend. its just a cheap option so people in the back can hear the music.

So people put 12" subs in the footwells then?
Yea right!

So sound HAS to come from the rear!

Alpine are always a good way to go mate, their range accomodates for so many different power outputs and generally their amps and headunits altogether sounds absolutely sh!t hot. I had a RB9812 HU with an MRD-1000 amp and a Type X woofer in my Pug106, back seats gone, full custom boot install, and well it killed it. Sound quality is unbeatable for the money imo. If you got cash go full alpine but just remember if your serious about all this, makes sure everything is matched, it makes a lot of difference :)

Put two sets of comps in if you really want to, all it will do is drag your sound stage back.  Surround sound is just that, surround sound - do you have a headunit with surround sound / dolby digital processing?  No?  Didn't think so.....

I'm too old to worry about slagging anyone elses opinion off, your car, your choice......

Just saying that "draggin the sound stage back" isn't really what your doing though is it. Our ears aren't facing completely forwards like a monkey so we can hear music clearly from behind and to the side but its all personal preference, just seems your alone with yours lol!

Sit in any real SQ car & you won't have speakers in the back. The sound should come from in front of you & if you want SQ the bass will not feel like it's on the boot but feel like it's all around.

The only reason to have rear speakers is for the passengers. If you do want rears then fade them out when you haven't got passengers in.

Like golf mk says, if your into ice get yourself onto Talkaudio. I've been on there years & you wont find a forum that knows more about car audio. There is uk, euro, world champions in db drag, iasca & Emma on there.

I've got 90wrms 6.5s up front off 150wrms & 1100wrms 12imch in the back in 3cu ft ported tuned to 30hz. This works brilliant I Like the bass slightly overpowering but if it's not your thing just turn the gain down a bit. Sound deadened the doors which increases midbass. I've left my standard rears in but turned off. Golf mk is spot on the money in what he says.

90% installation, 10% equipment.

Has anyone whose been slating him actually sat in a propper SQ install that's cost £1000's & taken 100's & 100's of hours to setup?

Also there is a world of car audio outside of halfords!

Brands to look up for good quality Comps & amps cdt, genesis, dls to name a few. Focal too budaybe a bit too pricey. Sub wise RE, Fi, AA all 10 times better thanost other stuff on the market.
