Just wanted a bit of help with my new sound system, have a 3door GTI. Currently using stock front speakers and tweaters hooked up to my Alpine 104bti, 600W JBL amp in the back powering an old phoenix gold 12" Sub.

Ideally want some decent 6x9's powered by their own amp, a double sub box powered by its own amp and components in front and back. Would you say this is too much?! Do I need components in the back doors as well as the front?!?!

Am I right in thinking that the stock GTI 8v 2.0L doesn't come with rear speakers or are they just broken as they aren't sounding?!

Ive got upgraded speakers front and back in mine, not components though. These paired with a 12" Sub and 750w amp sounds awesome. Ive got them going through a Pioneer DVD h/u and if i turn it up over 15 stuff starts to rattle and annoy me so its good enough for me :)

Power all the speakers through amps, it makes so much differance.

I've been through all the stages.

standard front&rear with sub = sounds ok, bass heavy loose treble

upgraded f&r and no sub = sounds really good

upgraded the fronts to components, the same rears powered by a 4 channel amp, added 2x 10in subs powered by a 2 channel amp = clean crisp sounds, and it doesn't stress out you head unit.

So with this set up you think 6x9's are unnessacary?! To be honest I couldn't really be arsed with faffing about installing a stealth shelf and 6x9's?! Would amplified front and rear components be sufficient?!

Decent quality components in the front driven by an amp, sub in the rear (obviously amped) are all you need.

Rear speakers just drag the sound stage backwards and 6 x 9's with a sub are a waste of time......

So you don't even think the car will benefit for having components in the back as well?!? Was planning on getting a 4 channel amp to power 4 sets?!?!

Anyone advise some decent Components?!?!

A 4 channel amp will only power 2 sets of speakers or a sub and 1 pair! :rolleyes:

Do you sit in the back?  Do you listen to music from behind you at a concert?  Rears are not needed a good set of amped components in the front will be superb.  I've recently got a 3 Series BMW but my MK3 had Inifinity Components which were ok, have put some Hertz ones in the beemer and they are fantastic (but they were 4 times the price!!).  How much do you want to spend on them?

As Len says for two sets of comps and a sub you'll need 6 channels if you want to amp them all.

You could always run the standard rear speakers off the headunit and the front comps and sub off a 4 channel but no rears at all is the better option IMO.

Invest in some sound deadenning in your doors too, it makes a LOT of difference  :wink:

^^ Wtf man, i'm sorry but thats a stupid view really. Ever heard of surround sound?? Ever been to a proper club with speakers in all corners of the main room??

I'd recommend gettin comps for the front and back, amping it all, making sure everything is electrically matched (i.e Impedence/Wattage etc) snd then a decent single 12" sub.

Any decent head unit will give you full capability to adjust the fade more towards the front or rear, giving you a fuller sound if balanced correctly. I usually have to fade slightly to the rear and slighty to the left also, seeing as i'm closer to the right speakers which appear louder, if that makes sence. Its all about me, screw the passengers lol!

But seriously if you have people in the back with no speakers it'll just sound sh!te and personnally i feel the fuller sound in the whole car is much better then raggin your comps at the front to keep up with the sub.

This again is only my view. Clearly other people think different but listen to me, not them lol :P
