As far as I'm aware, the 8V is tourqier at lower revs, so more fun to drive around town. No doubt somebody will correct me.  :tongue:

I personally have an 8V, and love it. Plenty of grunt when you put your foor down. But having neverdriven a 16v, I can't really comment.

Apologies! the white 16v i was talking about on ebay is acctually only £2350 and not 4k,its defiantly worth a look tho.just search for mk2 golfs and just search for cars and ull see it,look bloody lovely!

16v FTW,  70mph in 4th, nail it up to 130mph, change into 5th...
All on a private runway, no really!

he 0-60 times are very comparable. After 60 though is a different matter.

The little extra torque in the 16v is cancelled out by its extra weight, thats why 8v seems punchier low down.........I've had 2 16v before my current 8v, 8v is much more flexible low down in everyday use regardless of torque figures and the 8v digi is more tolerant of lower octane fuels. Mind you 16v goes like stink when you get past 4500rpm, if you don't mind living up there its great. Bodywork condition is really the most important issue with these now, make sure you drive any car from stone cold to check for second gear 'crunch' as well.
