Urgent Any Ideas Please!!
« on: 27 August 2004, 12:31 »
Hi everyone about 3 weeks ago i crashed my car into the pavement hiting my drivers side front wheel it damaged the wheel quite badly and when i took of my wheel i found that my wishbone was bent quite bad and my tie rod was bent as well i replaced them both and the wheel was still at the wrong angle it was bent still, with the top of the wheel at about the right posistion but the bottom was facing inwards so it wasnt good so i thought the suspension might be bent so i replaced that too ive just put that on and its still bent.
I spun the wheel round and it spins in a nice straight line still without any wobble but at the wrong angle. what else could be damaged on the car, could it be the hub thats causing the wheel to be at the wrong angle or could it be somthing else please could someone give us some help on this subject as its stressing me out now and i want to get the car back on the road. :)

;) Meet my friend, Mr Commer ;)

Seriously tho mate, I did the same, Had to replace a lot more than you have, Not sure what exactally as the garage did it for me, But one part had to  come in from Germany as no-one in the UK had it. Id recomend getting some professional help on this one.

Sounds like the camber angle is out. Have you tried adjusting it? Or is it already on max adjustment and still has the condition you're describing?

You can adjust the camber using the lower ball joint. The wishbone has elongated holes to allow for this adjustment.

That is why it is very important, when replacing your lower ball joint, to mark its relative position on the wishbone. Otherwise you will alter the camber angle. My guess is, amongst other damage, you have pushed that ball joint into the wishbone :-\

Just another thought.......
If your wheel is that far out then maybe you have bent the arm at the top of the hub......where it connects to the bottom of the strut :-\

i doubt that hub arm would bend. hitting a kerb would put all the pressure on the wishbone itself pushin it back in underneath itself- is it possible to damage the actual subframe itself??

judgin by the damage that i seen to the wheel also, it must have been one hell of a thump you hit it!!
