Isn't the GTD the same engine/power as the mk5 GT sport diesel?

Seems a peculiar marketing option from VW to give it the same (almost) body and interior as the GTI.
I know diesels have torque but it's really not in the the same league unless you want to talk about mpg (???)

Are they targeting company car buyers?

IF I was ever going to buy a diesel then it would be a GTD.
As i cannot see any reply saying this.
No its a totally different engine to the mk5 it does not have the huge clatter and turbo lag the mk5 has as its not PD its common rail. Much quieter and far more refined in both noise and power delivey.
Theres a huge difference imo between the new CR engine and the older PD units.

the review i'd read didnt give it any good compliments.  Can't remember what article it was, but it pointed that it was very slow, noisy and better getting a gti which is highly desirable.  plus them alloys aint as nice imo.

The Performance Car mag group test of VAG diesel 'warm' hatches this month is a good read and a bit more balanced opinion than the above.

Clearly the GTi will be better in certain obvious performance areas and GTD better for the obvious diesel benefits.

No arguing about the alloys though - GTD obviously looks a lot more conservative...

Have had my GTD revo'd its now an incredible car much faster than the mk6 gti till you get to silly numbers.

std v modded is not a fair comparison. try a revo'd gti then report back your findings

f@ck revo, get a compounded turbo with more blowing power, lightened & balanced forged con rods, ceramic pitons, larger injectors, bigger zhaust, better cam, stronger clutch then go for revo

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.
