Sorry guys have ordered a new Steel grey GTDi after having owned a Mark V gti. (Am I allowed on this forum??)
I have gone for the diesel after my engine exploded in the mark V  and after having had an Audi TT for two years.
Has anyone got a picture of their Steel grey GTI? mark VI that can be viewed?

I have not seen one.

Here's pic of my Steel Grey GTD if that helps (scroll down to bottom of page).

I test drove a GTD a few weeks ago to try out DSG (my dealer didn't have the GTI in DSG).
I was very surprised as to how good it was.  It was quiet, powerful and smooth... and quick.
The GTI was more fun with higher revs, but I wouldn't say it was THAT much faster - especially as the DSG kept the GTD in the right gears for power!

If I did a lot of miles - I would certainly seriously consider a GTD.  Fortunately I only do about 15 miles a day on average - so I'll stick with petrol

Exactly why I went from a MK5 GTi Edition 30 to the GTD - I do around 25,000 miles year and needed to save money somewhere. Not at all disappointed.

Test drove a GTD/DSG yesterday (have a non-DSG GTD on order but VW not threatening to deliver any time soon!) - was seriously impressed!  Would take manual version if available...

Dealer actually talked me out of a GTi alternative!  They've just had 3 heavy mob thefts of GTi-s - presumably Manc/Scouse crims - all recovered by Tracker!  Not exactly common I suppose but stopped that line of enquiry dead!

Having owned several GTi's over the years I bought a MkV GT TDi 140bhp 4 Motion from new 4 years ago. Paid £18k for it.

It has been a very 'good' car and very reliable but not all exciting to drive in the same way as a petrol GTi.

Yes I can get 55mpg but that gets dull and boring. Traction in the wet and snow is nothing short of amazing. Full bore standing starts, drop the clutch and away you go with no tyre squeal or burning rubber.

Yes, it has mid range overtaking pull but it does not make my hairs stand up on the back of my neck as my old GTi's used to do.

So, that car is for sale for around £10k ( pretty damn good residuals ) while I wait for my new GTi to arrive in about 3 weeks.

Cannot wait to get back into a fun car again, that makes me feel special so that I can start enjoying my driving again.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Dont want to pee on your bonfire but the chance are you were pushed towards the GTD because they are alot easier to get hold of than the GTI. not to take anything away from the GTD its still a great car and like its been said will easily map to 210bhp anyway... its just that I have found dont believe everything dealers tell you

Probably some truth in that !  Not sure about GTD being easier to get hold of though (not my experience)...probably depends on spec I guess.

Not sure why you'd remap the GTD - for track days surely a GTi/Petrol would be the only sane option?  Standard GTD plenty fast enough for me thanks - yes, past 40 and bit more sensible now!

I used to have a Mk5 2.0 TDI (140bhp) before my Mk5 GTI and I can honestly say that it was a great car.  I could just about keep up with most GTIs.  It was great for motorway driving as you could keep it in 5th or even 6th gear and still have the overtaking power.

I would say that the GTI is only a bit faster but a lot more fun to drive.  In real world driving conditions, there won't be much between the two.

I recently got beaten by a MK5 2.0 TDI .  I just couldn't catch up with him.  It must have been remapped.

The MK6 GTD does look pretty nice and if you are doing a lot of miles then it makes more sense than a GTI.

the review i'd read didnt give it any good compliments.  Can't remember what article it was, but it pointed that it was very slow, noisy and better getting a gti which is highly desirable.  plus them alloys aint as nice imo.
