nope

you have to specify them to be done - oil pump won't need doing

water pump should be done at the same time as the cambelt otherwise you'll have 2 lots of labour charges

apperently the car im going to see has had its cambelt changed twice so if the water pump has been changed it will be evident with the reciepts etc??

and if it hasn't is it a job that we need doing asap?

depends on the mileage - in theory the water pump should be a fit and forget item but it isn't as a few people on here will tell you 

any idea how long until the next cambelt service is due?? whats the current mileage on the car

no idea when the next ones due, hopefully going to view it this weekend.

its done 108000. last thing i need at the min is it failing on me. tempted to get the 1.8 non turbo (but i know i will end up regretting it in the future)

if its been done twice then chances are the cambelt isn't due for another 30K or so. 

Its an item which you can't be 100% sure is going to be ok 

and deffo plump for the 1.8T - few quid on a remap; job done

although i'd go for a TDI myself

if the water pump is going, are there any ways that you can tell before it completly fails?

and if i do go for this gti and there is no sign of the water pump being changed, should i get it done asap or wait till the cambelt will need doing next and get them both done at the same time?

no way to tell unfortunately - just keep a close eye on the temperature gauge - if it starts overheating pull over immediately and switch off the engine 

personally i'd wait - no point forking out money for something that might never fail

you don't hear of as many TDI's suffering water pump failure - mine lasted 100K and was still going strong although i had it replaced when i had the cambelt done

range from 2K to 4-5k

130's were only available from middle of 2001 onwards though
