Hard Drive

I have a kenwood stereo (I know, didnt have enough for a apline) anyways....I wanna know can I put a hard drive in the back of my car?  I have a fli vibe amp/sub and you know when ur driving down the road and think ohh yeah that wong would be great right now!!! Wud I need to change my cd player as well it is mp3/wma?

your headunit would need to be usb compatible at least..

Ok headunit has no usb option...but u can add hard drives as some people have done so that dont have usb?

tbh, you would need some type of media "box" - a device that will accept a usb device (your hard drive), and then stream it via audio to your head unit.

Usually cheaper to buy a head unit with usb....

First place to look would be on the Kenwood site - look at the accessories available for your model.

kenwood do a unit which plugs in to the changer input on your headunit. i think it is call a keg

If your headunit isn't USB compatible then it would be extremely hard to select what you want to play from the hard drive as it won't have the option to scroll throught folders etc. Definately need to get a HU that is capable of accepting a hard drive connection. Don't hold me to that tho

Best option is USB based headunit, Alpine for example offer iPod headunits with USB slots in the rear of them, meaning you can stash a portable HDD in the glovebox or similar.

Assuming we are talking of a portable HD without an external power scource you will find it difficult to find a HU to provide the HD with sufficient power.
