my 16v is idling at 1400 and 2000rpm
« on: 24 June 2009, 17:22 »
Ok I took all the induction off, so I could get to my master cylinder. I unpluged one sensor that comes of a breather pipe (i think) and I unpluged the one that is on the airbox. yesterday I had to move the car on the drive, left everything unpluged and it did idle high then. I knew it would, but today I modified the air box. I took the trumpet out, also the part that is in the bottom of the airbox and gave it a cold air feed.( using the standard air feed hole) I connected and pluged everything back together to see if it was more responsive. Well this is the problem, I start the car and it idles at 1400rpm, if I rev it it settles to 2000/1800 rpm and thats when it's warm too.

What do you think is happening? to much air which I doubt.
Or how do I fix this problem? I have disconnected the battery hoping this will reset it.
Thank you for any help

What did you do with the vacuum pipe from the throttle body to the airbox?

You really need to block this off. If it is left open it will cause a high idle like you describe.

I've plugged it back in mate. So should I take it out and block it off at the throttle body?

Check the thick breather behind the throttle body that runs to the carbon cannister, make sure it's pushed in properly, that'll be the jobbie

Depends how much of the diverter valve you removed. Just stick a bolt in the end of the pipe and see if that makes a difference. Also as Pete says check the big black one that goes to the carbon cannister.

Check all the breather hoses, I had it with TB to ECU!

right evrything is pluged in, all breathers are in. I'm stumped! I did unplug the sensor that is on the black part that is bolted to the strut (rubber mounted) and that made no difference. Maybe I damaged it some how. would that make it rev? well I'm going to fit my new master cylinder then crack on with it some more.
