when wayne says reset the timing he means reset it to factory spec...so back to were it should be.
My 8v hits the limiter at just over 6000rpm and peak power is at 5500rpm.

I know what he meant thats pretty obvious. And obviously it needs to go to a garage but a link on how this is done would be handy..

This seems to be common when someone has done the cam belt and not timed it up correctly. The ignition timing isnt adjustable.

Yep, could mean that the cambelt has been fitted a tooth or two out of line of TDC.

2.0 8v should pull cleanly to about 5600rpm, but will have nothing over 5700rpm... rev limiter should be around 6600rpm, but no point in revving past 5800rpm (5500rpm on some cars!!) unless you have high lift cams  :evil:

mine drops bang on 5k, i only had timing belt done a month ago! but i find it seriosly nippy and never rev it that high anyway so safe mode all the way for me :smiley:

I dont see why you would run a car that clearly isnt running right. Safe mode is a temporary mode.

dunno seems to run fine just doesnt go past 5k not that i push it that hard anyway! so safe mode is a temp status maybe it revs past 5k now?

No its temorary as in it will get you home or to the garage. You have a problem that needs sorting, if the garage did it then they should sort it.

Cambelts are not something to be taken lightly. If its a tooth out your risking the head, valves and many other things.
