Hi guys,

Just wanted your opinion on this. I'm from the NE and recently contacted a benfield dealer to have my car serviced for it's (long life) 65k service. They quoted me nearly £430. Which i thought was a little too much. So, yesterday, i rang the other benfield dealership up... And they quoted me 220 in VAT, parts and labour. Why is there such a difference in price?

Ask them

How old is the car, what service is due ? (per manual servicing regime).

When was last service done and how many miles since then ?

This is the trouble with LL servicing - it ain't good for the car. Have you checked out this thread:

If both services offered are identical, it's a no brainer. However, have you had the big 48k service done yet, including brake fluid change and spark plugs. You tend to find you get what you pay for these days

Don't forget to challenge Benfield to match a like for like quote - try a Seat dealer as well.

Just got my car serviced on LL £220 from Benfields Scotswood road.  I find with VW they try and throw in the Aircon re-gas and a brakefluid change ontop of the service, which is not necessary most of the time.

I have not long had my air con fully serviced while I had my recent service, and wooo what a difference it now gets frosty inside the car (and thats without my wife in the car!!! lol)
Seriously thou, if yer air con isnt that spectacular then it may need some servicing, plus it totally stopped that musty smell that I was getting.
Brake fluid change, well thats an every 2year deal so its easy to work out if you should do it or not! Many folks skimp on the brake fluid change. Its not very expensive to get it done and afterall it does mean that yer brakes get checked!
cheers

Thats a massive difference for the same service!!!
And you say its between two VW dealerships??

IMO, thats disgusting. The fact that some dealerships are clearly out to rip people off - the very people that buy their cars and help them keep their jobs.
All VW dealerships should have fixed prices for servicing.

london is much worse and now they don't sell as many new cars they need to charge you as much as possible to cover the cost of their ghastly glass and steel showrooms.

If you see my thread on service I got the same, had all quotes from main VW dealerships in the area, 2 of which in the same franchised group all different prices ranging from £187 - £230 ish

It should be standard service prices across the board, though if it were they would all be expensive and you wouldnt be able to play them off against each other to drive the price down.

VW only recommend a brake fluid change every 2 years , it's not mandatory for warranties etc. I my book it's a rip off, as is the aircon service.

I'm pretty chuffed with the quote from my dealer, £730 for:

Cambelt including water pump
Full 4 year service
DSG oil and filter change
Brake fluid change
MOT
