Just got my car serviced on LL £220 from Benfields Scotswood road.  I find with VW they try and throw in the Aircon re-gas and a brakefluid change ontop of the service, which is not necessary most of the time.

i used the same dealership for my mk4 gti when i first got it had them service it at 43k and they won't be touching it again! i had to go back and complain to their service manager as i noticed an oil leak that it never had before it went in it turned out to be that the tech who serviced my car had inadvertantly twisted the o'ring on the oil filter whilst fitting  a basic error in my eyes and not something a dealership should have done i check my levels weekly and although not a significant leak maybe but when the engine was running and under crankcase pressure it was! it had covered all the undertray and front of the engine which they had to steam clean after apologising to me i told them they were lucky i was'nt on a long motorway trip and i lost all the oil or they would have been recovering me fom the hard shoulder and be paying for a new engine

I have to say Benfield Scotswood rd  didn't really leave a good taste in my mouth.  The thing that really pissed me off about the place was the the fact I got a call at 6pm  the day before I was due for my service ( when I was making my dinner ) from a salesman telling me my car was what he was looking for and I should come in and test drive the new golf gti. I don't like the fact salesmen are looking through the service schedules and using telephone numbers etc. Mill garages at Fulwell Sunderland has gone to sh!t since Pulman took it over so I have little choice than to use Benfield

Thanks folks. The basic facts are, they're £200 cheaper....so that's where i'll try my luck. The downside is, silverlink vw agreed to give me the scirocco for the day, whilst mine was in for a service. Well, when i say 'give'......

Should i mention the fact that my car has a re-map? It's out of warranty, so no worries.

I've used Benfield for all the work on my old GTI (they supplied it new). Had some issues with warranty work, including paintwork and although it was a PITA, I stuck with them and they eventually did a good job. I always found the service side to be efficient and I got a call this week from the Sales manager at Benfield, Silverlink saying they were interested in my GTI. Very satisfying to tell him I sold it privately to the first viewer about 6 weeks ago :smug:

No doubt trying to push the new GTI Mk VI. I do recall they offered me a derisory part-ex price last year when I first considered changing it so it was quite satisfying to be able to say I've now got a new car from a different dealer
