Rubbish speakers
« on: 08 June 2009, 19:20 »
Ive got a mk3 golf gti and was wondering if everyone's mk3 gti's have totally crap speakers?  Mine have almost no bass, and like to crackle.  Is this my poor speaker system, or is it a universal thing?  I think im going to change them at some point, as its almost unbearable.

Ragged speakers that have an extremely low max power is your problem. Spend at least £100+ on components for the front and the same for the rear and you'll be laughin. Amp them aswell if you really want good handling.

Im looking at upgrading my sound this week in my mk3, i have had standard speakers since day one.

I was looking at maybe some Pioneer components for about £50, and should fit behind the standard grills. Something like:

alpine type r if you afford them, they are awesome!

if you want something cheaper, then go for the type e, still good.

you want to amp them for best results. also is a good idea to use new high grade speaker wire for them instead of using the wiring in the car.

LL :)

How many speakers do you get in one of these systems?

Type E are 99.99 and the Tyre R are like £160! lol.

Would get the type E if it was me. But even then thats a bit pricey for some front speakers. lol.

Not looking to have a sound off, just have some nice sounds.

How many speakers do you get in one of these systems?

in a component set like the ones i listed above you get 2 speakers (one for each front door), 2 tweeters replacing the tweeters in the dash and two crossovers, one for each door.

also type e will probs be around £60 for the component set. type r's are £150 mayb cheaper.

i do suggest getting decent speakers in the first place, as you will only replace them in the future with better ones.

Sorry for sounding completely useless, but what do the crossovers do?

Also, how much is fitting usually for a system like the type e's or r's?

Thanks in advance

firstly, i had a set of alpine type E's and i will never have them again! they were sh**e IMO. spend the extra cash on the type R's mate. as has been said, its better to spend more initailly and be happy than to go the cheap route an want to replace them straight away!

crossovers - filter the audio signal so that the mid driver gets the mid range frequencys and the tweeter gets the high range freq's.

as for fitting, anyone can fit car audio, and i mean ANYONE. it really is not worth the cash they'll charge to have them installed somewhere!
just take your time when removing door cards etc so as not to break anything and you'll be fine. if i were you id spend the extra 50 quid on getting better speakers and fit them yaself,  instead of paying someone 50 quid to fit them!
