so it's been a while since I updated this thread... various different things have been taking priority
got myself a 'george' the other week which does wet vac spray and extraction.. this pleased me. I always promised myself that once I got one of these I would give the interior of the cabby a good going over...
so I decided that as I had a couple of days free this week I would give the job some proper attention
this was what I found when I removed the seats...
I don't think that the carpet has had a lot of love during its life

took the carpet out and the interior was a complete tip, underlay was rotten so I binned it.. wiring was a total shambles

once the carpet was out I could see what a real state it was in

decided to use a strong mix of G101 and Autosmart Biobrisk... worked in then jetwashed off..
so halfway through cleaning the carpet was starting to give results... and give out a LOT of dirt!

finally done but still soaking wet

extracted - the results were obvious

and on the line to dry

while that was drying decided to tidy the interior a bit
set about cleaning up the wiring... where the original loom had got wet the insulation had rotted...
(its difficult to see in this photo but the passenger footwell was a mess)

so stripped it all back and cleaned it... then covered it in servisol, then let it dry.. then reinsulated

I cleaned the footwells with a strong mix of G101 and in some places Tardis... then extracted all the water with my trusty George

as I had removed all the rotten and smelling soundproofing and underlay I re-lined the footwells with some spare dynamat that I had left over from my mk3 ICE install..

I will be ordering some proper mk1 underlay to go over the dynamat to add a bit more soundproofing and comfort - this will be added in the near future
refitted the carpet, wasn't as bad a job as I thought it was going to be
