ITG is probably the best panel filter to go for. Most of the ED30 guys who have upgraded have either had the Pipercross or the ITG. :nerd:

Quite easy to swap it out too, but if you haven't done it before there are quite a few write ups on how to

Thanks for that fellas... is it a worth wile upgrade?

I’m not looking for massive gains but am wondering would it allow for the engine top breathe better than the stock paper filter

I have always used K&N in the past (other cars) but they don't seem to do one for the MK5 GTI?

Is the ITG an 'everlasting' one and if so how often does it need cleaning?

Oh, and where can I find the guide on how to change it? I presume it's under the engine cover somewhere (never removed it). Worst case I can get my mate to do it as he's a VW tech.

You just clean the filter every couple of years or whenever you feel the need.

The ITG will pay for itself in the money you save from buying filters come service time.

I bought the ITG, but found it way too oiley for my liking. There have been many disputes as to whether oiled filters are good for the MAF etc and I'm sure that the ITG product is very well researched and proven, but I just wasn't happy with the amount of oil that was on the filter - even after I had done the initial wipe down!

I now run with the Pipercross that came with my Carbonio.

Its up to you though mate.

Turns out that K&N do make one. It's about £41 off ebay, will probably go for that.

Never considered about the filter oil affecting the MAF, but never had an issue with any of my previous cars.

The process involved for changing the filter looks far too complex to me........no wonder the VW replacement intervals for the filter are so far apart - 60k miles or something - that's madness. Should be done every 10-20k imo.

Im running a Pipecross one with no problems. I added it when I threw on my Carbon CAI so its hard to say what difference the filter alone has made.
