I'm currently running a 'green' cotton filter on my edition 30, it doesn't need oiling. so far so good.

Changing the air filter is a right PITA and will test your patience (and your wallet as you may end up having to buy a new cover).

By the way, have ordered the K&N off ebay (£45 inc delivery).

Decided to go for that in the end because i've had K&N in my last 3 or 4 cars and they have always given good results, especially on turbocharged engines.

Will let you know how I get on. I am sure it will help, it's currently still running on the factory fitted filter so it's got 40K's worth of crap in there.

K&N filter finally arrived yesterday. Can't believe what a P-I-T-A it is to fit. I had read the guides on how to do it but pulling the cover off the engine is worryingly difficult as it is so close to breaking (managed not to break it somehow). Greased the mounts before putting it back so hopefully it will be easier next time.

Not the best design though, far too much hassle to do it.

Anyway, took it for a quick spin, it does make a difference esp. at the top end where it pulls much harder. Away to the Lake District this weekend so hopefully will get to test it some more..................

put a pipercross on mine and it runs a lot smoother that the standard filter, well worth it for 35 quid!

Same for me! I didn't feel any increase in power or anything, just that when the engine was being pushed that it felt like it was coping a lot easier and taking in the air easier.
