some advice please...........

my mk2 has a problem, the passenger side rear wheel rubs on the plastic arch when i have people in the back, the car is lowered 40mm on shocks and springs and the wheels are 15` bbs ra`s.

im not sure why it does this and it only does it on the passenger side of the rear plastic arch.

any ideas?

what size tyres have you got on the ra's?

it looks as though the drivers side rear wheel has some camber on it, hard to see from this pic i know:

 

then the passenger side looks fine:



but its the passenger side thats rubbing.

could it be the geometery as the prev owner did the shocks and springs himself.

i have had a good look over the car and i cant see any welding or accident damage?

im really confused about this and i need it fixing as im doing a long trip in it soon and the car is going to be full of people.

could coilovers be the answer?

Hi i had this when i put my wheels on the other day and i know it sounds stupid but one of my wheels would not fit on the back of my car it was far too tight to fit on the hub so it stuck out more than the other side in the end i had to put it on the front? this sorted the problem

Look at the rear shocks to see if they have grooves in the body of them. These grooves are so that you can set the ride height, and obviously they need to be equal. The bottom spring support will rest on a circlip that is fitted into one of these grooves. Make sure that both circlips are in the corresponding grooves each side.

Rear camber is only adjustable with shims etc, to be honest most Golfs seem to only rub one side my mk3 did, I was told it is to do with how they are built and where the beam sits etc.

is this something to do with reducing torque steer because i had a 16v gte which rubbed 1 side and not the other myself though was sure it had a dodgy rear 1/4 fitted badly
