haha, my dad said why dont i get a decent new car last night. he wasnt stupid enough to mention the scrapping scheme... but we agreed that, new cars were boring, and for 2grand, what else can you get that is as fast, economical, fun, and actually look nice? we came to the conclusion that, well theres nothing? apart from a golf gti! A williams clio 2 was mentioned but a good one is more than 2k.ah wait, now i want one again...

I get the same thing at work.
One bloke said "Let me tell you why you're a c**t."
After he explained why I should chop my gti in for a 150bhp Fiesta ST like his for a measly £300 per month on credit I said to him "I'll stick with what I have thanks. An ST weighs just over a ton so gives 135bhp/ton for £300 per month. My 135bhp gti weighs just under a ton, so gives 150bhp/ton which is why you can't catch me on the M6. And I bought it outright for £300. Who's the c**t now?"

"They laugh because I'm different, I laugh at them because they're all the same". Love my mk2 and would probs only sell it to fund another.

I think my VW enthusiasm is infectious, everyone I know loves my motor and appreciates that it's different from the jelly moulds.
Albeit my old boy and best friend prefer newer cars now, both have Passat and VRs now respectively cause I nudged them in that direction .

I remember recently one of the kids at work telling me matter of factly that they'd had a discussion and come to the conclusion that of all staff, mine was the coolest car

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

I'd have said cause I don't have the other 25K I'd need to buy something decent, and I'm not a silly bollocks who'd get into all sorts of finance for a depreciating asset that I'm never going to own!

I'd rather save up and make my GTI perfect, to have something that will do a big poo over most new cars and I will actually own myself, AND will be different, special and interesting to boot.
