Both fronts on my GTi had same problem. They were original factory fit Dunlops with approx 18k miles.
Had tracking checked and it was spot on. Chap said, GTi's do carry a little neg toe in.

The wear on mine was a little further towards the sidewall, kind of on the 45 degree angle between the main tread and the sidewall. Closer to the one on the left picture. My first went at 12500 miles and literally wore right through and failed when there was 5mm left on the main tread.

I do drive over about 5 speed cushions similar to those in previous post each way on my 3 mile commute to work each day. I guess thay may not help!

Thats what the issue is. Cant be anything else. Not sure why they would wear so much just by going over them, but its really the only explanation for it....

Get a proper laser wheel alignment print out at a garage listed here: http://www.multimap.com/clients/places.cgi?client=alignmycar3.

Should only be £20 for just the printout.

All the above garages use the Hunter Laser System which means you will get a print out and its also pretty straight forward to use (so that the chap doing the job doesnt mess anything up). Just be aware of the "just-car clinic's" etc.

That way you can see if it has too much toe-in on the front. Inner sidewall wear is normally due to too much toe-in
