Just been to see the GTi
« on: 25 May 2009, 17:27 »
Thought I'd start a new thread as this post would prob be lost in one of the others.

Took a few hours off work and went to the Verve in Glasgow (Rutherglen) Its a gorgeous car, pics dont do this justice. They had a black 5 door all standard with no extra's and a silver 5 door with a few extras but the silver was sold. I would have taken pics but went straight from work and I've only got a crappy iPhone camera with me and I aint embarassing the car with pics from that.

Couldnt get a test drive booked (should be within the next week or two) but said they would fone when there was one available. Never asked about deals just yet but was talking to the guy for quite a while about the car and VW in general. He was very good, he was night and day compared to the other's I've talked to in the past at that garage.

Will sit patiently next to the phone now till the call.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

You're lucky in the UK: with France being only Europe's 5th biggest market for the GTI, we are having to wait until the Germans and the Brits have got theirs! Consequently, I have ordered mine without being able to either drive it or even see it :(

I'm glad to hear that it looks better in person (the contrary would be worrying). I will have to try and sniff one out next time I'm over in Kent. Can anyone tell me where the largest dealer in the South East is (I am often over in the Dover - Dartford area on business)?

just dropped my car off for a look at the air con - and the dealer had a black gti with all the options (leather/ sat nav etc) in the showroom
looked great , but very very similar to the mk 5 in many ways.
not enough difference to change for me, but would be on my shopping list if i did not have one already.
Can't wait for the R20 though-  now that may be a reason to change
GTI 30 Edition, Reflex Silver, MFSW, Xenons, cruise, iPod & armrest.....and a tank full of 99 octane

There may not be that much visual difference, but that doesnt mean to say the car isnt different. I think VW intentionally didnt make many changes as the mk5 is already a exceptionally good car, but it is different and better....

XDS, ACC, better quality parts used for the interior and looks better inside, its a more smoother drive, more refined and higher torque at lower end plus better response, better car insulation, better power steering, more miles to the gallon, lower tax due to lower emissions, engine overhaul = new pistons, rings, vacume pump, fuel pump, air flow sensor, more bhp and faster ! (I googles the engine changes as i wasnt sure exactly), different exhaust layout, different lights, slight change to the 18" alloys, parking assist generation 2, cruise control is more adaptive on the mk6, there's a few more little tweaks here and there. Not huge changes, apart from arguably xds and acc, but they all add up.

indeed - the price list confirms such changes lol

so much for being cheaper to build though the current £ / Euro rate doesn't help matters either

When I was at the garage yesterday I did take a few admiring glances at the mk5's, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a mk5, If I couldnt afford a mk6 I'd have no probs with a mk5, I'd love a mk5 to be honest, maybe even get one of the later ones with leather etc as standard when VW were trying to clear out the 'extra's' stock, but I've had my heart set on the 6 for a long time now, for me its just basically cause its the latest model, looks a little nicer in my eyes all round and a few little improvements here and there, oh and a little greener too hehe, just a shame the price is a sore one.

I have the same attitude as yourself, we do only live once. What the heck, maybe I should just get an R8
