personal preference really at the end of the day, both work just as well.
Just that you see a hell of a lot more threads in the mk3 forums with guys having broken coils than you do in the mk2 forums, and thats on cars 10 years older plus! Also since the car already has a MK2 coil no need to source a replacement.
Last of all I just dont like the idea of opening the casing to get at the rev counter feed, when there is a perfectly fine off the shelf way to do it

I've seen it suggested the MK3 coils fail due to heat, so perhaps suitable heat sheilding/moving to a cooler location would help extend their life?
