Gearbox/reverse light connection question...
« on: 24 May 2009, 17:11 »
So I've just put new engine in (SHE'S ALIVE!! *cries with joy*) and the reverse light connection is different. The wire that's in there now, that was on the old gearbox (I don't know the technical terms) is like a plug that goes into the back of a radio, and the connection on the new 'box is like 2 pins sticking out, kinda kettle lead size. Are they different 'boxes, or is it just they changed the connection, like with the speedos??
Cheers,
Rich

The switch is just a switch - so if the connector is different, then just chop the plug off and crimp on two female spades.

Just change the switches over from the old box to the new one

Obviously compare them when they are out to make sure nothing else is drastically different

Just be careful swapping them over, as some are different heights - so it won't actually make contact if its too short.

if it's just a reverse light switch can you not just put the one out of your old gearbox into your new one??

nice find chuff, twisedblack, all you need to do now is cut the plug off the old loom with a good length of wire and then cut the appropriate wires on the new loom and join them up (how is personal preference, solder or join with electrcal connectors)

depends, there are 3 types of reverse switch.  since yours is a 90spec you had the later 2 pin one, which has a clip on connector, the earlier 2 pin ones have 2 spades. as already said,m swap the reverse switch over!  the really early ones have a large multi pin plug, this one also does the large mpg gauge and upsift light.
