let's say one is about £1,200 to buy now.

I know we have to allow for inflation but if YOUR Mk 1 is still in condition in 20 years time how much do you think you could get for it?

Double?

Treble?

More?

Or what about Less

Mk1's are heading for classic status and mk2's will be next, as for value who knows but standard mk1's I think could end up around £10k in the end.

all about demand - number of cars left against people wanting to buy.

really good mk1 would have cost 5k 5 years ago, today.... prob 5k still.

can use air cooled as an example i guess, what was a 50's split screen camper worth in '89 against now?

I think the old shape MK1 is heading for classic status long before the MK2 does. Although basically the same engine as I have a 1991 Mk 2 and have a 1985 Cab.
Today’s standard mod cons like electric windows etc make the MK2’s look (the round shape) much more close to today’s cars and that makes a difference. The late 80’s shapes of cars definitely changed and I think that is where the price divide could be large
Already I notice parts for the Mk1 are definitely getting more rare and so are the cars. Also the Cabs will last longer as they are usually stored away for the winter.
Just my opinion

Reference mk2's good ones are already fetching more than mk3's, going to be a couple more years but they will become a classic.

When you think that there are a lot of CAB mk 1's it is going to be interesting i think that will add huge money to the classic status and will put prices through the roof!.......................Sorry but could not resist it..
