Hello,
I have a P reg 2.0L Golf GTI (Mk3), and although it drives perfectly, when I come to stop at a junction or roundabout, the revs drop way down, and sometimes it stalls. No its not my driving

From reading other posts i think the throttle body was dirty so I went to clean it and removed the "crankcase breather pipes" at least i think thats what they are, they were full of thick black gunge and the back of the hose had split.
See pics below:

So my question is:
Was it the hole or the gunge or both that is causing the problem?
Where did the gunge come from and what is it?
I'm guessing I still need to clean the throttle body.
How do i go about changing the split pipes?
Please help, i can't face another stallathon!
Thanx Kat
