External Temp Gauge Problem
« on: 19 May 2009, 00:29 »
Hi All

I am new to the forum as I have only owned my GTI mark V for about 4 weeks but already I have encountered a few problems.... the main one being no aircon - the car is just out of warrenty and i didnt buy it from a dealers so from reading everyones posts on the issue I could be a bit screwed if it's a compressor or something..... But I'll get a service done 1st and see what happens...

Anyway - the digital temperature guage reading the external temp has never had a reading.... has anyone else encountered this problem/ know a solution? its nothing major but would just like to know if its something simple....

cheers

The temp sensor is behind the bumper. It's most likely disconnected or needs replacing.

Hope the aircon is just a simple service mate .

The two issues may be related... The air con won't activate if the external temp is below 5 Deg C to protect the compressor etc so if the system realises the external temp sensor is beefed the A/C might be deactivated to protect itself as well....

Hopefully this is the case as it would be an easy / cheap DIY fix

thanks a lot for all your responses... sounds logical that the 2 are connected. With regards to the temp sensor - i am assuming its the front bumper.... any ideas what side and if its easy to get too?

this maybe a job for the weekend!!
