haynes covers most components in brief, doesn't go into the fuel system much but provides decent break downs of trim and general upkeep.

improve and modify is so old the modifications such as whale tale spoiles and golf rear sun deflectors might not be to your style doesn't really give loads of indepth ideas out.

I have a different restoration book to the one mentioned and i only find a few areas that are more indepth than others and vice versa, compared to haynes.

I have got the Restoration manual.
I find it is quite useful when used alongside the Haynes Workshop Manual (the workshop manual I have is very old and very rubbish).
The author (Lindsay Porter) really knows all the little tricks to dismantling/reassembling, so I have found that I am less prone to making silly errors (such as snapping bits of trim, etc) whilst working on the car.
It is also quite realistic in terms of what you should and should not attempt, for example replaciong a cabrio hood - don't touch it with a bargepole.
