This will just be a short little piece as the boss man wants a proper write up and photos etc.
For those who don't know the Berg Cup is a hill climb event held around mainland Europe, mostly in Germany but the first round and also the closest is in Luxembourg, which is where i went. Why is this of interest to me and maybe you? Well the cars of choice are retro VWs, Opels, NSUs etc etc and generally run small capacity, high revving engines. We're talking 200bhp out of a naturally aspirated 1600, but revving to 10,000+ good times!
So myself and 2 othersset off friday evening and got to our hotel in Luxembourg at about 11.30pm. Next day we drove off heading for the town where this round was being held but before we got there, we saw a road closed off and opposite a field with a sign saying 'specatators', so in we went. The track is a normal road 363 days of the year, but it was super smooth and twisty so for the remaining 2 days its a race course!
Walking up the side of the road to the town is bizzare in itself with crazy cars flying past at 30 second intervals but getting to the town is weirder still. Imagine a small town, but everywhere you look are race prepped cars parked up! Its not just little retro cars, there was an ex-DTM Judd mercedes and a DTM Astra which sounded mental! I'm not too up on race cars and couldn't work out all the categories but there were alot of what look like F1 cars driving about too. Its bizarre walking amongst them all, the locals rent out their driveways to the race teams, but if not they just park up their trailer and camper on the side of the road and set up camp!
Anyway, enough typing... photos!
