Trackday Fail!
What a poop day yesterday car wise (Still had a right laugh with everyone though). It was a prime example of how a trackday shouldn't go.
Firstly the damn thing wouldn't start in the morning and I nearly called the AA after 20mins only to realise I had knocked the fuel pump wiring loom when loading the wheels in the back and the plug had come out. Plugged back in and I was off.
Arrived at Combe got the car ready, checked fluids, caught up with everyone, had the briefing and sound check and headed out for my first session. Halfway round lap two the water light comes on. Straight away I realised I'd forgotten to refit the cap when topping up the coolant. Pulled straight in the pits and found the cap had done one. Luckily found a guy selling a brand new one and a very kind chap in a MKI gave me some G12 to top it back up. That'll be my 2nd plonker moment of the day then.
Let the car run up to temp to check it was all bled OK and headed back out for session two. About 4 laps in the oil buzzer goes off, I glance at the Oil pressure guage and it'd flat lined. Great. Roll back to the pits and pop the bonnet expecting to see a blown sensor or something but nothing, not a drop spilled. Seems there's a problem deeper in the engine.
I let it cool down and the pressure came back when cold but as soon as it's warm it hits 30psi at 2K and won't build any more pressure with revs. That was the end of the day for me, a sad 6 laps of which probably 2 were proper flying laps. Nursed it home and will be pulling the sump off to investigate.
On the plus side the new steering wheel was great on track.
