Ha ha yeah he'd love that!

Hopefully picking up knackered GTIseat over the crimbo period which I'll start hacking apart and measuring up for subframe purposes.

Makes sense.  Just make sure it's fitted up right and that the seatbelt works properly in it.

Aye aye cappen. Initially just going to be used on the road with the standard belt but will be getting a harness bar and captive nuts welded in before the next track session.

Nick

Are you getting the harness bar purpose made? Or a standard off the shelf one?

Cheers

I've not seen any off the shelf ones so I'm hoping to get someone to weld a bar between the rear turrets.

Make sure it's got spreader plates welded into the turrets and make sure the bar is large enough diameter and an appropriate gauge.  If you drill through it to attach the harnesses (which you shouldn't need to) you should sleeve and weld any holes with tubing.

I really, really don't like this whole 'bodge a bar in for harnesses' thing instead of fitting a proper cage - it rather skips one of the huge benefits of having a cage - avoiding death in an accident.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - do it once, do it all (cage + harness + buckets) and do it right - it's why it's taking me so long to scratch the cash together to do my 'safety package' on the Syncro.

Obviously the harness you're getting will have 3" shoulder straps, won't it?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Make sure it's got spreader plates welded into the turrets and make sure the bar is large enough diameter and an appropriate gauge. That's exactly what I'll be doing (well having done cuase I can't weld for toffee) If you drill through it to attach the harnesses (which you shouldn't need to) you should sleeve and weld any holes with tubing. They'll be looped round and not using eyelets in the bar.

I agree with what you're saying BUT I am massively skint so it has to be a compromise between doing everything to the car I would like to do or actually using it on track. If I spend all my money on a cage then it won't be seeing any tarmac for the foreseeable future. If the dream situation of me getting my bonus for staying at work till the end and then walking straihg tinot a new job happens then I'vbe already told the wife she can have all the money left over after the Golf has had a cage welded in, ha ha

Obviously the harness you're getting will have 3" shoulder straps, won't it? Of course, I'm not a complete idiot!

I'm just struggling to see the benefit of fitting (presumably) four-point harnesses.

Why not use the seatbelts that are fitted OEM?

Unless you're going for a 5/6 point harness, of course.

Black seats are faster - you just can't see them being faster cos they are stealth, innit.
