If you put the reg number and make into the DVLA vehicle enquiry website it will give you the year of manufacture if that helps?

I'm in Jersey so I don't think that will work.

Phoned VWUK and they have given me a manufacture date of 13/07/05 which means it was almost a year and a half old before it had its PDI!

Does this seem right?  Whats a typical lead time from manufacture to sale?

for a uk car the lead time is normally 2-3 months then they are normally sold to dealerships cheap and regs as demos or loan cars and used approved. sounds like its been sitting still for a while thats a whole year and half of the car doing nothing.
If your buying im selling!!!!!!!

I've just sent the dealer an email telling him I've changed my mind.  Everything about the deal feels wrong especially seeing as the dealer hasn't been completely honest with me.

The ironic thing is if he had been completely up front with me regarding where the car had come from I would have probably just accepted it and bought the car.  As something smelt fishy I've done some research and found the car came from Dubai (Not via a dealer getting rid of it for VW UK as he'd told me) and the car was manufactured middle of 05 and had been sitting around for a year and half before it hads its PDI.

Oh well his loss.

The only thing now is I may have to look at different cars as MK5 GTIs don't come up very often here.

Good decision - wouldn't touch this car personally but I can understand your interest given the price and availability. You would without doubt get royally shafted come resale time (I know this isn't a priority when you are buying, but in the current climate you should really consider this).

Good luck with the search - keep looking, a UK car will be there for you

My MY06 GTI was registered in the UK on 30/06/05, they're supposed to trickle through in July but mine got through early!

I've had a couple of July reg'd VAG cars with next year's model year in the VIN.
