both the latest diaphram version G and the new piston type version D are bullet proof on stage 2 so i would stick with oem.

Bear in mind, version D is not designed for the gti so will flag on the vag system as an incorrect part fitted.  I'd stick with version G, £35 and 30 mins labour so a cheapish fix

I thought the G revision was going to be bullet proof. For me unfortunately not. It did last 20k miles though. My C revision lasted only 8kmiles.
The D Revision does not thow up any errors (on my car with vcds anyway)
When I got home after purchasing the D Revision valve I opened the box and thought they had given me the incorrect part. I went back to the VW dealer insisting they had given me the wrong part. They told me it was the correct part, the G revision was now obsolete and this was the replacement.
Why do you say the D rev is not designed for the Gti?

There is a bit about it here, have a read: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=104575.30

I called my re-mapping guy, who plugged the vag com software into the car and showed me a fault code, indicating the car was losing boost pressure!

....Who is "your re-mapping guy"? Which tuning company?

There are numerous other parts to check apart from the DV which may cause loss of boost.

Did you tell your VW dealer what the fault code was?

Hi RR. The chap in question owns his own tuning/electronics company up here in the North East - I'm not willing to disclose his company name, just in case i inadvertantly adviertise him in a bad light. Hope you understand. I and many people I know, have used his services on a regular basis and we've never had a problem with his chipping/re-mapping in the past.  Unfortunately, I never made a note of the fault code, as we were pretty sure it would have shown up on VW's system - but it did say something like: "exceeded boost pressure" - or something along those lines.

What else would you say it could be?

thanks.

I had an issue with one of the remaps I had on the car (not the current one!) and part of the issue was that some of the safety parameters had been removed during the remap. This didn't affect the performance, but it did throw up a similar error code to the one you've mentioned. It may not be anything to do with the lull in performance, but maybe related to the remap.

....I would suggest that you contact the tuner and ask him specifically what the fault code is and then you have something more specific to discuss with your VW dealer. Why isn't this chap helping you solve the problem? His remap may indeed not be at fault but as a professional tuner he should be able to provide a more precise diagnosis of what the problem is and then consequently you have a better chance of tracking down what's causing it and then solving it.

You need data log info and not vague generalisations like "exceeded boost pressure".

It's a vague description of the fault error. Yes, we should have taken note of the actual fault code - but we didn't know it would have been wiped. I think, even if i had made a note- vw still wouldn't acted. unless something shows up on their system. The tuner is helping in which ever way he can-but is limited to what he can do. He's asked me to get the suggested valve replaced and then we can do a few further tests, if the problem still exists.

read you link RR - very interesting. So basically, there could be more than one 'none obvious' problem with the boosting? balls...

It might be 'not obvious' or it might be very simple.

If your tuner can check various data logs he may be able to establish if it's a leak or something else. It's very much a process of elimination. A fault code would doubtless be an enormous help.
