Hi all,

I know there are substantial posts on this topic but I havnt found any with my specific issues or with a resolution I havnt tried.

I have a set of 16v 160mph 2 pin MFA clocks.

The average speed and distance driven displays all stick at 0.

Ive checked the vacuum hose and its fine and connected properly.

Ive checked the speedo cable and its ok.

Ive changed the speed sender 3 times:

Upon changing the speed sender I get a bit of life out of the MPG gauge which will read 0.1, 4.0, 1.7, 0.2, etc etc inconsistent figures for about 5 mins before sticking at 0.

I also hasten to add that by holding the reset button it doesnt reset the figures.

The only other thing I can think to change (without changing the clocks completely) is the vacuum sensor:

Ill be trying another set of 16v clocks this weekend but just wanted to get everyone else's views before I do..

Any thoughts .. anything at all Im starting to lose my mind with this (not to mention shredding my fingers to a pulp due to all the protruding screws in the dash of a scirocco

I'd go with vac sensor.

vac sensor wont help at all in this case, i had gti clocks in my driver without the vac sensor connected and the avg speed/distance values worked just fine. id say either the pickup in the speedo is bust or the pcb on the clocks is damaged

Just incase anyone else has this issue. I changed my clocks for a set of 16v motometer clocks yesterday. All functions are now working (including the MFG gauge, distance driven and average speed).

Only problem is that the mileage on them is 178k whereas mine were 115k  :undecided:

Ok ive been searching the forum to see how I can change the mileage on the new clocks to match that of defunked ones.

So far I cant find a proper guide for a newbie (such as myself) to do this. All I want to do is have my working 2nd hand clocks I bought off ebay, reflect the mileage of my car (115k).

I've read posts from several people saying its easier to change the whole speedo but im worried that by doing this I'll incur the same problems I had with the existing clocks (as above).

Help please?

it is doable but fiddly, and there is some risk of buggering the clocks!

hmm might be better off looking for a set of working 16v clocks with a mileage closer to my own in that case!
