Probably something stupid like a broken braid between the solenoid to motor.

how can i check that? whereabouts am i looking. is it like a wire?

started ok last night and again this luchtime???

it's that not knowing when it will next not start, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

On the solenoid there's a terminal which takes the +ve feed from the battery, then on the other side there's another terminal which outputs that feed via a bare wire to the starter itself.

It had snapped on my step dads car, but still made contact on occasion, so sometimes it would start, other times it wouldn't.

Your saying that it will not turn over, worth checking that the immob. has not stuck in.

im wondering now if it is the immobiliser playing up??

it's an aftermarket autowatch 239ti (touch key)

it appears to disarm as normal but maybe it's being temperamental. is there anyway i can test/troubleshoot it?

started 3 times in successsion (fri night, sat lunchtime, sun morn) then when i got in it to come home this afternoon it wouldn't play ball for about 10 mins then bingo.

don't if there's anything it this but over the last week that it's been playing up it's always been during the warmth of the day (afternoon) rather than in the mornings??

Have it bypassed and see if the problems goes, if it is the problem have it replaced or removed all together.

update;

still failing to start (turn over) about 40% of the time, usually afternoons after being used earlier in the day.

however there was a new twist this morning; fired up 1st time but stalled immediately! restarted 2nd time but seemed abit rough.

did the same mid morning.

5pm fired up 1st time but died immediately, did this 6 times or so of trying. tried removing relay 167 (fuel pump?) just per chance and ensured other relays were pushed in correctly. tried again and it fired and ran. maybe coincidence?? maybe not. on journey and reaching home seemed abit rough/hunting at idle.

could this be related to my complete non turning over of engine over the last week, i wouldn't have thought so (fuel pump relay affecting operation of starter/ignition etc?) unless someone knows different?

has this non start problem evolved into this new problem or something else?

any thoughts much appreciated!!

look on the starter, you'll see a chunky red/black wire to a single pin connector. disconnect this and jump 12v onto the pin and the starter should turn the engine over.
if it does not its a starter fault, if it does its a ign switch, wiring or imobilisor fault.
