hope you get it sorted if it is a cable you need to pull it back with a pair of grips and it should be ok

Thanks..I'm still yet to tackle it actually..  does the whole regulator arrangement come out easilly?

easily enough, just undo a few bolts. might have to force the window(gently) down to gain access to the bolts clamping the window in place.  The hardest bit is trying to pull the thing out and put it back in, just takes a little time and a bit of trial and error. its a bit like a logic puzzle. 
Its pretty self explanatory once you get the door card off and have a look at it.
