What does it do?

I have installed a k&n induction kit on my 8valve but where do i put that round sensor that goes in the air filter box? i have disconnected it for the moment and miraculously my missfire problem is calmed down, could that sensor if naf cause a missfire?

that is the air intake temp sensor, dont really do alot to be fair, its normally the sensor that the dodgy ebay 10+bhp resistor thing goes across. best to just drill a small hole in the neck of the filter and push it in there.
MK3 GOLF GTI 8V  now converted to 16v!!

If the cone is the correct one for your car, it will have a hole already made in it for the sensor to push into, on the back of it.

I have a KN on an 8v, and it has the hole to put the sensor in.

must be different to early cars then as i have no sensors hanging and no holes in the K&N

different MAF, so maybe the sensors is different.

All i know is, i have the sensor, and i have the hole to fit it. And i didnt find the hole at first, so do give it a propper going over before you destroy it with a drill, as they are expensive those KN's
