major clunk after disc and pad change
« on: 25 April 2009, 11:08 »
Changed the discs and pads and now when i am going very slow-lets say 5 MPH- and i take my foot off the accelerator there is a really loud clunk coming from the passenger side front. it does not do this when i am braking or going at higher sppeds.

Help me please before i go insane over this car!

Right i went back out and put the old disc and pads back on and it is still doing it. I owned a Hyundai coupe once and it did this and in the end it was the lower arm ball joints.
Do you think it could be Bushes????

Did you fit the anti rattle clips?  they can cause the pads to move about and drop..?  usualy happens when reversing or rattles over bumps though.

Its an odd one,  All i can think of is mabey the calipers are loose or the disks now have a bit of free play since the retaining screw was removed, but i doubt that as the wheel bolts should clamp em' tight!

This clunk only happens when going at very low speeds in first gear. if i have the clutch pressed in then it does not happen. its only when i am going about 5mph and i take my foot fully off the accelerator. Do you think it could me something to do with the drive shaft?

all discs and pads are secure.I went and bought 2 more retaing screws from VW.

Check these out, Engine mounts > Drivbeshafts > Gearbox All of those could cause that.
