i would also recommend a fix and trade in.
As someone already stated, it'll always bring back memories, and you'll always wonder how hard they drove it, where they drove it etc, every time you are at the wheel.
Its always heartbreaking when this happens, you spend you hard earned money on something nice, and idiots go and think they can just take it!
Let insurance repair it, then try and sell private via Pistonheads or somet if I were you. Dont just give it away at silly money just in an attempt to get it gone though, since every bit you can get for it will help towards the replacement.

Didnt think of that TBH.
Then again, if someone picks it up at a bargain price, and everything is repaired to new standard, maybe they wont be too bothered???
Well hopefully they wont be!
Best of luck anyway mate, with whatever you decide to do.

Right, feel a bit sick writing all this but here goes,

CSI went to the car today to work on it. i was rang by the officer on the job asking what was in the car and what is mine etc etc etc.

Started asking me if the screwdrivers etc were mine, cut a long story short - The car is filled with empty whiskey bottles, cigarette packets, filters, basically everything short of weed.

The interior is full of mud and broken glass (not from my car) they have emptied the glove box and arm rest but left the small cubby holes that still have my work pass and keys in.

Now the boot had my bonnet bra - still there, 2 pairs of dance shoe (for a charity show in work mine and my dance partners) they had took her shoes!!! scummy. Then the kids work i was marking from school (GCSE) was ripped up. Spare wheel was filled with cig papers and other crap.

Outside the car has hit the curb and from the sounds of things a lamp pst as the passenger wing is crumpled, the front bumper sticking out but not hanging off and lower vents fallen out along with a flat tyre.

I Have instructed the insurance as if i had collected i think i would of just pushed it off into the mersey.

So im awaiting tomorrow when it goes to the garage i am going to call down and collect my bits and get pics.

2 lads were chased from it after it hit whatever, the copter came out but lost them.

My head is properly messed, im completely torn about if i want it.

Chris

I have a different outlook ;)

OK - the car has some damage. BUT it was taken with the keys (so good). I would insist that the insurance  get the car fixed to the condition it was prior to the theft. ALSO replace the clutch and gearbox.
If you want, get the car hooked up to a dealer's computer to check the ECU logs - this will tell you quite quickly if the car has been thraped.
At let's not forget, there is NO difference between you thraping it and somebody else (IIRC the car was bought as a used example anyway, so Lord knows how the previous owner treated it ;) )

Get it valeted and it will be like new (and slightly better - you'll have new bits on it!! :D All under their own warranty)

Remember, you've paid a darn big premium for both the car and the insurance. Use it. Enjoy it.

That's what I would do anyway :)

Sod all this selling it malarky - you wouldn't do it with your house if you got burgled would you? You get it cleaned/repaired & items replaced ;)

FWIW, I also have had a car stolen/damaged returned, so it's not a "well, this is what I would do" comment.

It IS sickening. You go through a lot of conflicting emotions.

I kept my car after I'd found it. same type of stuff found in it too.

Remember, it's amazing what some (else's!) elbow grease can do to restore your pride and joy. :)

Agree with Dano tbh... dont write it off just yet!!

Can fully understand that your very pi$$ed off, as something you love and cherish (not to mention work so darn hard for) has caused you and your gf alot of grief. I would say get a good look at the car and then makes some notes as to the full extent of all the damage caused. Remember that no one knows how good a condition the car was in apart from yourself.

Let them atleast try and get it fixed to the best condition they cam... if its satisfactory you can keep hold. If not you can always sell it on for something new

Hope it all works out for you mate

p.s. Surely the used cig ends and empty bottles can be traced???
