Thought 16v and Vr6 fronts were 288 discs?

nah the later mk3s had 288's - 280's were on the older mk3.

vr6/gti 8v/gti 16v all have same fronts brakes. g60 is same just 4 stud.

right, all this talk of different size discs has me confused - I want 4 stud brakes, just using a rear beam from a VR6 right? - what discs do I need?? front + back

288mm were on VR's

And 280 on gti + 16v.

288mm then was put on all gti + vr's towards the end of the production.

As far as i know, cus my 1996 8v gti has 288mm, but i believe decs 1995? 16v has 280mm. But then a VR has 288mm all years long.

Hit and miss really. But you need to check first.

yeah cool, i thought that the gti changed to 288 in 1996, but i didnt realise the vr was 288 the whole time. i thought it changed with the gti.
