Lots of feedback throught the wheel

When going over bumps in the road, there is a lot of feeback through the wheel

It is wore when turning and going over rough roads, especially with power on, it shakes the wheel violently.

The car has been checked over for anything unsafe in the susension department so not sure what it could be now.

Sounds similar to mine and I know the toe and camber settings are a tad out at the front (its toeing out a tad and the camb ers arent balanced but not excessive either). Is this a recent thing and is the car lowered/been lowered recently and if so how much?

Its either an excessively worn shock, or a bush if you ask me. Camber and toe would be an unlikely candidate, the only way they could cause it, is it if was BAD - then it would be noticeable by eye.

Bottom ball joint causes a knocking over speed bumps, but doesn't normally shake the wheel.

You running PAS?

No PAS, but i know the front shocks are hardly in top condition., i'll replace them, and then have the camber and tracking done

Do a bounce test on the front wings and see how the shocks respond.

Like I said, I wouldn't bother with setting the toe and camber unless it actually looks off by eye - that won't be causing what you've described. Odds are, you'll be playing with a bunch of the steering components trying to find your gremlin, only get the tracking done when you have your original problem sorted.

Otherwise you'll have to keep getting the tracking done each time you replace a steering component (wheel bearing, ball joint, TRE etc.)

not to thread hi-jack but as Ben is online....i have a similar problem where even though i have pas it seems every dink or bump in the road when the brakes are applied the car veers, i thpught this could be brakes but ive checked and they 'seem' ok they are going to be replaced shortly as they are on the way out but i cant see this being the problem as its not always when the brakes are applied, the steering seems to follow the lines of the road if you know what i mean?!?

How wide are your wheels? might just be tramlining. Mate had a car you could sit on the motorway and feel it settle into the grooves left by the trucks!

I'm permanently on-line ;) RE: The braking, it sounds more brake related than anything else. If you car is pulling to one side when braking then its one of a few things:

Air/Water in the brake lines - fluid change to fix
Binding calliper - wind calliper in/out to fix
Binding pads - remove the pads, file the edges where it is in contact with the calliper, do the same on the calliper then paste a little copper slip on there to fix
Binding slides - remove the slide bolts and pins, either buy a new set from GSF (~ £4) or clean up and grease the old ones to fix
Mismatched tyres - get matching to fix
Worn rubber hoses - replace to fix
Bust calliper - replace to fix

I'd drop a fiver to an MOT tester and ask them to pop it on the brake rollers and you'll see if there is an imbalance between each side.

RE: The tram lining, its just because of the way the MK2 is set up. The rears have a negative camber set as standard, which just makes the car follow the road. However, incorrect toe/camber/castor on the front will affect this even more.
