Lowering springs

I know that this thread has probably been done before but I wanted some advice. I've been pricing up some lowering springs/suspension (jv, don't you dare say a word !  ) and I've got a few questions. By the way, I'm not after coilovers and only want a drop of about 40mm.

1) What are the best springs to go for ?
2) I've been quoted ?64 + ?90 fitted for some Apex springs, anyone know if Apex are any good ?
3) Is it best to go for just the springs or for the full suspension kits ?
4) Is 40mm drop enough, or should I go lower, don't want none of that arch messing about though.

Any help, answers or advice is greatly appreciated.

Ive got ?40 springs from GSF, Solid as a rock with a really harsh ride, just the way i like it   Fitted em my self.

Fitting shorter/stiffer springs with standard struts isn't a good idea in the long run, something has to give.

id get a set of Eibach Springs for an 8v gti, these drop between 35-40mm and are the best springs on the market. they are that bit more expensive but worth it

if have the 16v Eibachs on mine, and although it only drops 20mm the difference between them and the standard shocks is unreal. far more cornering ability but suprisingly far more comfortable

only thing i would say is that i would have got the 8v springs had i realised they dropped that wee bit further.

Thanks for the replies so far. So is the upshot of this for me to get some Eibach springs (?115 for a mk1 cab from Awesome-gti), but as it's just the springs is it going to cause problems in the long run as tophuh said ?   Or is is best to go for the full suspension kit and does anyone know if Eibach do these ? Cor ! It's a minefield !

Not really a minefield - more like how deep's yer pockets.

So many people make the kits from Spax to Koni or Bilstien.

I would go for uprated shocks as well, preferably adjustables to get the ride to suit yerself.

Had springs only for 9 months and still no problems, However my cars Very light.

eibach/blistein is the ideal setup but you can run std shox if you want. the drop with eibachs isnt big enough to cause the shocks to bottom out

I was thinking about putting 16V standard shocks on my valver, but with 8V eibach springs (probably) to stiffen up the ride without actually lowering much, is this the way to go (lol, i should say, is this the best CHEAP way to go!

this is how low the Eibach 16v springs lower........as you can see, its not very low at all!!
