Because the rear makes the difference upgrading just the front will make the handling worse

because if you go lower than 40mm you'll end up hitting the driveshaft against the anti-roll bar and the knocking will do your head in after a while!!

another alternative is some adjustable droplinks

Whilst this may be true, on normal roads, you really can't tell

I still haven't decided what to do about getting a rear ARB yet, so indecisive!!

correct on the roll bar front - spaces i think you need an adjuster ring to clear the strut - not 100% sure

wheel spacers are generally used to give your wheels a bit more poke and give a wider stance to the car

With coilovers you may need them to clear the adjustment ring
