Im pretty sure, because the audi is an inline engine its slightly diffrent,  i really dont know to be honnest but i do know the MK4 golf non PD 110bhp engine will fit into your car,  also the 115, 130 and 150 bhp PD engines will,  its relativly big job but not to hard to do.

Mabey if the mountings on the audi are the same it would fit...  From what i remember of the A4 TDI engine i worked on, it was very diffrent to a MK3 engine layout.   It depends what your goal actually is,  if you are after power,  PD is the way to go,   if you are just looking to replace a turbo and mabey a quick upgrade at the same time,  i would stick to your hunt for a 110 turbo.  Mabey if you have the choice of a 110 engine that fits and fancy a project, it could be a good option as the later engines especialy are alot smoother and quieter as well as faster.

The first is from what I can tell, the same engine as mine and the second in the 110bhp we talked about.  The first would be a straight swap, how much work to make the second fit?

Both are AHU, that audi engine is 90bhp not 110bhp.   Both however should fit, Its worth mabey you poping down to a local scrap yard and having a good look at where the engine mounts are on an A4, then compare to your golf, if thats the same and the pipe work is ok it should fit,   the pipe work is diffrent on an audi but you can swap it from yours so thats no problem.  If the choice is between the two,  as they are the same, go for the golf one.

The only codes from the audi that is 110bhp is the AFN engine, same as the golf gt-tdi.  Look out for a quattro TDI as they were only fitted with the 110 engine.

If you are fitting an AFN 110bhp engine from any car, the ECU and engine loom would need to be changed,  you might get away with the engine loom if everything else is the same but certainly would need the matching ECU.  And your gearbox too,  audi is a diffrent box.   Hope that helps a bit.

Certainly does help :) Thanks!

Okay so i'm on the hunt for a AFN 110bhp yes?

I will need the gearbox, ECU and possibly the wiring loom - what about driveshafts and ancilliaries like alternator, starter motor etc etc - I assume all these will be different on the 110? (ie cannot use my original 90bhp bits?)

I cant comment 100% on the alternator etc..  but being a diesel and being very similar, and providing its out of a Golf, it should all  be exactly the same as yours,  the gearbox will fit as long as its from a golf, driveshafts should be the same too.  Im pretty sure the only diffrence is the ECU and turbocharger on the engine, the block its self is pretty much the same as yours.

AFN is the code for the 110 engine whether its in a VW oe Audi it should be the same, from what i can see its the only 110 engine there is.   That passat engine looks about right.. but if its mounted inline its going to be more like the audi, so double check the mounts.

Thats pretty much all,  audi engines might have a diffrent exhaust manifold layout,  so diffrent down pipe mabey?  I cant think of much else tbh.
