Hello all,

I've seen a GARRETT Turbo on ebay that i'm quite interested in, the part number is 028145762    028 129 713K -

It's from an '98 Audi A4 1.9TDI AHU engine - I too have the AHU engine but mine is a '96...

If indeed the turbo/manifold is suitable for my engine, will it offer any improvement over my original turbo? (peirburg)

Thanks!

Jack

I would think the main difference is the Audi is a 110bhp and yours is a 90bhp, the turbo will I guess fit but I don't think the manifold will be any good as the engine is mounted a different way to a Golf.

You raise a good point with the 110bhp...

While I basically have the same engine, mine is only 90bhp - what are the differences between the two?

Thanks

Not 100% sure but I would think turbo and a remap would be the difference.

What if I bought a complete Audi 110bhp engine - what would I need to make it fit/plumb in to my golf?

I've seen one that has the diesel pump and turbo with it but nothing else, which (if any) of my original ancillaries would suit this replacement engine?  Would I need to change the gearbox/driveshafts?

Thanks!

i would have thought an AHU engine was an AHU engine wether fitted in an audi or a vw, its probably more to do with how they have tuned it.. see if the ecu and turbo are compatible with your set up, autodata is a good start to see if the ecu pin outs correspond with each other.

Righty, im planning upgrading my MK3 TDI so i have some infomation on the engines and turbos etc..

I will dig it out in a sec,  but i do know the 110bhp engine is rare, afaik it was put in the euro spec GT-TDI models but they were not sold here. Anyway the audi turbos should fit your manifold but i dont think the audi manifold will as there is more space with it being an inline engine on the audi.   I will post the engine info i have in a sec.

Right, the turbo off the following engine codes should fit.

1Z /AHU Standard TDI engine
AFN - 110 BHP engine
ALE - Introduced post 95 90bhp
AZZ (might fit)  but thats of a non tdi engine.

AAZ - KKK turbo
1Z AHU and ALE also use KKK turbo or Garrett depending on model age and country.

I think i managed to figure out that the turbos arnt any diffrent across the range and mine is fitted with the best there was for the 90bhp engine, yours should be the same as mine, the 110 is however a variable vain turbo so thats the one you want to try to get.

If you want to get good power i would start with a remap,  then mabey look into the AFN turbo, I think the MK4 turbos might fit, I know the MK4 do a 110bhp non PD engine in the UK so that might fit...?   Im currently looking into whether any of the PD engine turbos will fit onto the non PD, I have a MK4 TDI with a 115bhp PD engine and i can see it really brining the Mk3 to life with a few choice mods.  could just be an expensive dream though.  i will keep you updated on my findings, im doing some hardcore part matching and research tonight
