No Memory
« on: 26 July 2004, 10:53 »
Any ideas,

I have just fitted a kenwood KDC-3021 cd/radio unit into my 1995 Golf Gti. Problem is it is not storing any of the radio stations or settings.
I fitted the unit myself, with a halfords supplied cable assembley - just clicked the connectors together.

Cheers

Not sure on kenwood sterios but on my pioneer unit i connected the red and yellow wires together by the connector pins.

have had the same problem before many times and i solve it by either swapping the yellow/red conectors around (eg yellow to red and vice versa instead of yellow to yellow and red to red) or like previously said put the red and yellow together, but this will make your headunit permanenty on rather than switchingon from the ignition. Hope that helps

Cheers Gibson ;D

I'll give it a go.

It is weird that the cable assembly supplied to connect the kenwood to the VW does'nt have the correct wiring in the first place.

^^ the reason for this is that although most car manufacturers have adopted the ISO connector to terminate their stereo wires, they can't quite agree which should be the perm. live and which should be the switched live, hence the need to swap the wires over mid-loom in some cars.

Swap them over and you'll be cool and the gang.

I have memory problems too, usually down to JD!
But S11EPS is right, I had this problem with my Kenwood system and Cab, and have experienced it on other VW too. Its as simple as swapping the ignition live and permenant live wires around.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture
