Fitting comps into a mk 3
« on: 08 April 2009, 13:58 »
How do you fit them, have taken out the door speaker 2 wires going to it and have taken out the tweeter 2 sets of 2 wires going to them.
Where do I put the cross-over and which set of wires do i connect the tweeters to?
Cheers Chris

Alright chap, just so you know, I write this late at night after coming in from a night out lol! So if the post looks a bit iffy I apologize.

As you noticed, I run Kappas. Now when taking out the tweeter, there were two sets of wires going to that correct? This is where your crossovers go. One of them pairs of wires is for the woofers (where you'll mount the woofer Reference speaker) and that will go to the input for the woofer on the crossover. The main input will be the other pair of wires, which come from the headunit.

As for the tweeter, they should have their own wiring straight from the tweeter from the box so just use those to the tweeter input on the crossover.

I put my crossovers in where the original tweeters were. They just managed to fit. I do however have an amp so my main input on the crossovers comes directly from the amp instead of the other set of speaker wires left from the woofer.

Hope this makes sense chap.

:)

I'm not sure Len, as there are two sets of wires that are in the dash once you remove the old tweeters, one set is coming from the HU, the other set is going to the woofers in the door. I think you're gonna need a crossover of some kind tbh.

Nope!  Just need to find which set is direct feed up from HU.
The new feed for door speakers will be from a seperate amp!

So I guess its a matter of pulling a set of leads and see which moves!
