How long before MK5s become cheaper?
« on: 08 April 2009, 11:38 »
This is a serious question and not a jab at any of you. I would really like a MK5 GTI in Candy White, I've got what I want it to look like planned, insurance for me even now is a bargain, but the price of the car is too much atm. It's averaging out about £15K for what I'm after.

Obviously with the release of the MK6 GTI they should start to decline but how long before a decent descent is in order do you think? I was planning on keeping onto the MK3 for as long as possible (most likely a few years to keep insurance and costs down to save for the MK5).

Maybe worth waiting on the MK7 to be released too?

Cheers guys.

£15k!!!??? Is that an ED30 I presume? I've seen MK5 Candy's around for less than that. I bought my 07 ED30 for less than that and its spec'd well (xennons/highline/MFSW/cruise).

The MK5 has been very popular - most of the more mundane model's (non-GTI) will get the grunt of the MK6 impact price-wise. And when the MK6 GTi comes out, it (even after its good media attention) will still struggle to pick up any big sales figures for the first 12 months in this climate.

The used car market at the minute has never been so strong. Dealer's are fully aware of this and are tending to not budge with their forecourt prices (especially on the nearly new stuff). So to get a good deal look at private sales.

Cheers for the input chap.

Yeah I wouldn't want anything else other than ED30 tbh, and I'd like it specced quite high, as that will be my car for a good long time (5+ years). It seems the Candy White ones go for more than most other colours. Similar specced ED30s are around £3K cheaper.

I'm not really to fussed on what plate it's on, as long as it's what I want from above, obviously the newer it is the more expensive.

I'm not in the market right now as I just can't afford it. But will defo be there soon enough, I'm estimating 2011 (I know it seems a way off but gotta plan these things lol!).

Give it a year and the MKV's residuals will start to slip.

MKV GTI prices have recently GONE UP for the last two months due to the lack of the MKVI and the MKV being out of production.

so its actually worth £500 now?

by the time you want a MKV Shady i would expect ED30 prices to be hovering about the 10K, possibly lower; all depends on how the economy goes over the next couple of years

I was thinking they'd be about 10K too. Hopefully that is the case. I don't want a MK4 unless I had the R32 but that's just silly money on insurance, I'd be more than happy with a MK5 GTI ED30 :) I've seen so many nice ones about in white.

The Candy White one is my choice, I've always thought it looked the best from all the colours. I'd only settle for something else if it was really worth it ;)
